What Seychelles asks you for
The Seychelles half is the same for everyone. Two foreign nationals need a valid passport and an apostilled birth certificate each, plus an apostilled divorce certificate if either has been married before or a death certificate if widowed. The banns run for eleven days. The government fee is SCR 3,000 on Mahe, Praslin or La Digue. Two witnesses must be present and we provide them. The certificate is issued within twenty four hours of the ceremony.
The ceremony is in English
By law the official Seychelles ceremony is conducted in English. That is not a problem, but it is a genuine surprise to couples who assumed otherwise, and finding out while standing in front of a registrar is not the moment.
Interpreters are arranged routinely, including Polish, and the vows themselves are short. Ask for an interpreter in advance if either of you would rather understand every word as it is spoken than read it afterwards.
Umiejscowienie at the USC
Transcription into the Polish registers is called umiejscowienie. Your USC wants an application, the original copy of the foreign act, and an official translation by a sworn translator, a tlumacz przysiegly.
Only documents that count as civil status documents in the issuing state, with the force of an official document and no doubt as to authenticity, may be entered. The apostilled Seychelles certificate meets that comfortably.
Your names, and Polish spelling
A transcribed Polish act can be supplemented or corrected from your birth certificates, and the data adapted to Polish spelling rules. That matters more than it sounds, because the Seychelles certificate will come back without Polish diacritics.
If your surname contains characters the English alphabet does not have, expect to raise it at the USC and have it corrected from your birth certificate rather than left as it appears on the foreign document.
Timing
Polish operators generally ask for documents six to eight weeks before the ceremony, largely for translation and filing, and a last-minute wedding is still possible with a complete document set. The Seychelles certificate is issued within twenty four hours of the ceremony, and the apostille follows quickly.
