Granite, a buggy, an ox cart, and two very different days.
Thirty-six frames from two weddings on La Digue, kept together because the island is the thread. The first is an expecting couple who married at a bamboo gazebo and were photographed among the boulders. The second brought the family, bridesmaids in coral and pink, and a walk down the beach on a father's arm.
La Digue is the island of the pink granite. Most of it has no cars, so couples arrive at the beach by flower-decked buggy or, for one frame in this album, beside a traditional ox cart. The boulders are why people come, and they are where the strongest portraits on the island are made.

Why two weddings on one page
We would normally give each couple their own album. These two are shorter sets from the same island and the same kind of beach, and together they show the two ways a La Digue wedding tends to go: just the two of you among the boulders, or the whole family on the sand. Both are real, and both were photographed by us.

An expecting couple among the granite
The bride was pregnant, and one of the quiet frames is their hands resting on her bump. The gazebo was bamboo with white drapes and pink flowers, with petals along the aisle and white peacock chairs. The rings sat on a starfish in a shell. Both of them cried at the table, and we kept that one in black and white.
A second wedding, with the family there too
A different couple, a different day. Bridesmaids in coral and pink waited on the sand, the bride walked down the beach arm in arm, and the guests applauded at the signing table. The groom's morning frames are here too, the shoes on the veranda and the cuffs at the window, and the album ends on two rings in a white box among red leaves.
